Mayor Allen Lipsmeyer proclaimed May 7-13, 2023 as Travel & Tourism Week in the City of Morrilton at the May 8 Morrilton City Council meeting.
Below is the text of the Mayor's Proclamation -
2023 NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK PROCLAMATION
Whereas travel has a positive effect on Arkansas and the nation’s eco
nomic prosperity and image abroad, it also impacts business productivity and individual traveler’s well-being;
Whereas travel to and within the United States provides significant economic benefits for the nation, generating $2.6 trillion in economic output in 2022, supporting 14.5 million American jobs;
Whereas U.S. travelers’ spending directly generated tax revenues of $84 billion for state and local governments, funds used to support essential services and programs;
Whereas travelers’ expenditures in Conway County a
mounted to $39.6 million in 2021, employing 304 county residents, and generated over $3.6 million in state and local taxes, contributing substantially to the county’s economy;
Whereas travel is a catalyst that moves the City of Morrilton’s economy forward and contributes greatly to the excellent quality of life enjoyed by our citizens;
Now, therefore, I do hereby proclaim May 7-13, 2023 as Travel and Tourism Week in the City of Morrilton, Arkansas, and urge the citizens of the City to join me in this special observance with appropriate events and commemorations.
